ANNA BENTLEY HOLISTIC HEALTH

Counselling

Counselling (also known as psychotherapy) is a talking therapy with a trained professional who will provide a safe, confidential space for you to talk about whatever is troubling you. It can be offered short term (6-12 sessions) or long term (open-ended) and is usually conducted in weekly sessions of 50 minutes each, at the same time and day each week.

I offer a calm, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to talk about whatever is troubling you, and to help you understand yourself and others better. I believe that everyone has the capacity to find their own solutions but sometimes needs help and support to do this.

I can facilitate this by working in a variety of ways, including:

Person-centred: driven by the belief that the client is the expert on themselves, this way of working is client-led. The therapist offers the core conditions of non-judgement, empathy and genuineness and helps the client gain self-awareness and insight.

Psychodynamic: this way of working considers the development of the individual from a baby and includes areas such as attachment and object relations. It looks at how the experiences a person has had throughout their life have influenced their current emotions, behaviours and mental state.

Gestalt: working very much in the here and now with what the client brings in to the room. Gestalt therapy looks at the mind and body of an individual as a whole and can help a client deepen their capacity for self-reflection and self-awareness.

Solution-focused: often used when a client has one particular issue that they would like to work on without exploring the potentially deeper, underlying causes. This uses techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy such as examining automatic negative thoughts and working on changing habitual thoughts and behaviours.
